Mykonos-Santorini
Mykonos-Santorini: For those of you that feel your destination is Mykonos or Santorini we have made an extra section to provide additional information on these 2 beauties of the Cyclades. Mykonos? Santorini? Or maybe both..
MYKONOS: The island of Mykonos, bright and white- is subject to high winds and rough seas on a fairly regular basis in the summer, and many times there is no dock space available for charter yachts in the new marina situated a mile N of the old ferry harbour. The sailing yachts are the onle vessels permitted to sail when the strong N NW Meltemi wind is blowing and sailing charters can ensure you can for sure visit this famous island though it is wise to have an alternate plan in mind if Mykonos is on your itinerary. Mykonos is the ultimate party island that attracts the rich & famous and those who want to be like them (or at least trendy enough). Restaurants and other services are expensive but if you're on a budget, there are reasonably priced places too. Most of the bars and restaurants are clustered around the harbour promising the wildest kind of night life in the Cyclades.
One of the reasons of the extreme popularity of Mykonos island is the many sandy beaches and their crystal-clear waters. The most popular beaches are the one located in the southern coast of the island; they are all fully organised and some of them (Paradise, Super Paradise, Elia, Platis Gialos, Psarou, Agios Ioannis, Agrari, Paranga, Kalo Livadi, Ftelia and others) are considered as some of the best in Greece. Night life on the island of Mykonos is famous worldwide and it is the main reason of the islands huge popularity and high level of tourism. The whitewashed capital Chora or Town has hundreds of crowded bars and clubs and the famous beach resorts offer huge night clubs and lively beach bars. It is also known as being one of the best gay and lesbians spots in Europe. Delos is a small islet located a few miles from the Greek Island of Mykonos Greece. Delos, in Antiquity, was one of the most important sanctuaries of Greece. It was considered as the birth place of the gods Apollo and Artemis.
SANTORINI: What to say about Santorini island ? Together with Mykonos it is the Greek island that most people know all around the world. Millions of photos, articles, posts have been written since 1960 when the island started gaining the reputation of a unique place.
It is really a great experience to sail your private charter yacht under the high red steep cliffs of the caldera. Sailing in Santorini is not so easy, because there is no place to moor a yacht - except the small "fishing shleter" of Vlychada village at the South coast of the island.
Around 1500 BC, the volcano of Santorini Island in Greece exploded and the eruption was so strong that the centre of the island sank and took the shape with the caldera that can be seen today. The eruption might be responsible for the destruction of the Minoan civilisation of Crete Island.
The last eruption took place in 1956 and it is still active today... The island of Santorini, is considered as one of the most beautiful islands and has many beaches. The most famous are Perissa, Kamari and the Red Beach. Perissa and Kamari have a large and endless black sandy beach while the famous Red beach of Greece is composed of black and red volcanic rocks. The island of Santorini is mostly known for its incredible villages. The traditional villages are like most of the villages of the Cyclades with the difference that they are perched on the top of impressive cliffs. They offer incredible views over the volcano, the sunset and Thirassia. Some of the most beautiful luxury hotels are located there. The most famous villages of the islands are Oia, Fira, Messaria and Imerovigli. Click below for more villages as Megalochori, Pyrgos, etc.
